The number of landholders investigating carbon sink opportunities with CO2 Australia has increased by 681% since the introduction of the Federal Government's Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) in August 2011.

The Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) commences today and provides exciting opportunities for farmers, landholders and landfill operators to participate in carbon markets.

The CFI Adminstrator is now operational and will allow land managers, farmers and landfill operators to participate in carbon markets.

Regulations to enable the operation of the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units, recognition of offsets entities, approval of projects, transition of existing projects from Greenhouse Friendly and the Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (GGAS) and the assessment of methodologies also come into effect today.

CO2 Australia has been appointed by the Tasmanian Government to undertake a Forest Carbon Study aimed at estimating the volume of carbon currently stored in Tasmania's forest estates.
