CO2 Australia has been announced as one of three newly appointed service providers for the Australian Government’s 20 Million Trees Programme.
CO2 Australia has delivered some of Australia’s largest revegetation projects. Over the past ten years we have planted over 40 million trees into historically cleared and degraded lands, covering over 26,000 hectares, 100 individual landholdings and four Australian states.
The 20 Million Trees Programme — an Australian Government initiative that is part of the National Landcare Programme — is an initiative designed to protect and restore the environment and make agriculture more sustainable and productive.
In total, the Australian Government has committed $50 million to the 20 Million Trees Programme to fund the planting of 20 million trees by year 2020.
Under the 20 Million Trees Programme, CO2 Australia will deliver a range of large-scale biodiverse native tree planting projects across in diverse regions across Australia.
In delivering these projects, we will work closely with landholders and our project partners – including Murrumbidgee Landcare, Noosa & District Landcare, Queensland Trust for Nature, World Wide Fund for Nature, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and Parks Victoria.
If you are a landholder who may be interested in having tree plantings established on your land please contact us.
The plantings would be a variety of local trees comprised of both over- and under-storey species. Plantings will be established using a mixture of nursery grown tube-stock and direct seeding to provide the best results and where available local provenance seed will be used. Whole paddocks, shelter belts and creek lines would all be suitable under this program.
There is enough government funding to cover all of the costs of establishing and managing the plantings during their first few years, so if you are interested in putting trees on your property, this is a way to have the work done for free.
