Can you see the hotel for the trees?

Located in the far north of Sweden, architects Tham + Videgard Hansson Arkitekter have designed a hotel hidden in the trees.                 Called the Treehotel and set just outside the small village of Harads, this is the creation of Britta and Kent Lindvall. They were inspired to build the hotel when an area of forest behind Britta’s guesthouse was sold for logging. Instead of waiting for the inevitable to happen in a country where forestry is such an important industry, they contacted the forest’s owner and offered to buy the land from him, determined to demonstrate that the natural environment around them had value beyond supplying timber. Our favourite ‘room’ is the Mirrorcube. The Mirrorcube is a light-weight aluminium structure clad in mirrored glass and hung around a tree trunk. The exterior reflects the surroundings and the sky, creating a camouflaged refuge with 360 degree views. Accommodating two people, the Mirrorcube features a double bed, bath, living area and roof terrace. Guests access their room via a rope bridge. To prevent birds colliding into the Mirrorcube, an infrared film visible to birds has been laminated onto the glass.
