Australians love their backyard. It’s a place to enjoy family barbeques, throw a footy around with the kids or just relax with a book under your favourite tree. So, when we found out the backyard at one of MacKillop Family Service’s residential units was in need of a makeover, we knew what we had to do. MacKillop provides accommodation and support for children and young people who are unable to live with their families. In Melbourne on any one night, 80 children are in residential care with MacKillop Family Services and a further 170 are cared for in foster placements. The CO2 Australia team has brought together the support of suppliers, colleagues and friends to establish a safe and fun backyard all children at the house would enjoy. Through this generous support we were able to re-design the yard and introduce a green lawn, native plants, a veggie patch and a 5000lt water tank to keep the garden thriving. A wall-mounted clothesline now allows for greater play area, and a new BBQ means the kids can enjoy meals in their own Great Aussie Backyard.
